Crafting a Successful Day

"Many things aren't equal but everyone gets the same 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We make time for what we truly want."

In response to Natalie Sisson's 15 days to freedom challenge; I will be posting responses to her daily tasks. Today i'm outlining my daily success plan, which is great, because my recent surplus of time has allowed me to experiment with crafting my day exactly how I want it.

I wake up around 8 am and relax in bed for about half an hour while I do light therapy and listen to one of my favorite podcasts or an audio book. I live in Maryland and we are currently in the cold grey dead of winter which has an awful effect on my mood and productivity; it's probably why I want a location-independent lifestyle! The light therapy helps.

Then I cook myself breakfast- usually eggs and tea but sometimes I have oatmeal or coffee. I love breakfast and I love being able to take my time cooking and eating instead of rushing out the door. Then I do a little yoga or some stretches and attempt to meditate. I'm new at meditation and it's hard to let go of those inhibiting thoughts but I've learned that it's a common habit among highly successful people and it does easier with time.

Then I get to work for the better part of the morning. I work on getting photography gigs, learning new photography skills or assessing my goals and planning or initiating my next steps. Right now I'm fascinated by the versatility of GoPros and I'm learning a lot about them. I had no idea that you could make 3D videos* or matrix-style film with a set-up called an array. Super cool stuff. (*If you want to watch the 3D video, you can allegedly order 3D glasses for free here http://free-3d-glasses.com/ but I will let you know how it works out for me)

I make lunch at home and go for a walk while I listen some more to podcasts or audio-books, and then I continue working until about 5. My evening has a lot less structure and sometimes I have work to return to but at some point I try to exercise for a little while at home, practice guitar and write or draw. I frequently try to write about things that I'm thankful for because it's easy to get stressed out about finding new ways to support myself. I spend a lot of my day at home because I'm in money-saving mode but eventually I'd love to get a laptop and include a co-working space in my routine!

I think I little novelty is important too so on Wednesdays I throw away my routine and work on whatever I'm in the mood for. So that's it! That's my day and I try to maintain a good work-life balance.
